The Hakki Pilke 38 Pro works reliably even in demanding conditions. A forestry entrepreneur professionally producing birch firewood couldn't imagine giving up the machine.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Location matters, proves Simo Rousu<\/strong> firewood business in the Tornio Valley, in Purasenvaara in the municipality of Ylitornio. The industrial shed and firewood storage are in a prominent location along National Road 21, which leads from Tornio to Kilpisj\u00e4rvi. The location is so good that a phone number on the exterior wall of the shed has been sufficient marketing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Demand is good and keeps growing, Rousu states with satisfaction. - Business is conducted in both Finland and Sweden. Retailers also buy trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rousu has been making firewood for about 15 years, six of which commercially. Before that, he had an HVAC business that was transferred to his son in a generational shift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Safety is absolute priority number one when working alone, Simo Rousu outlines his needs. The forestry entrepreneur has indeed invested in a high-quality machine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hakki Pilke 38 Pro is a reliable partner. In addition to safety, the machine choice was influenced by operating features, power, capacity, and noise level. The machine is electrically powered, and starting and stopping are easy. The machine requires fuses of at least 25 amperes. Rousu also appreciates the fact that in the machine's power transmission, everything operates hydraulically: there is not a single V-belt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With high usage volumes, operational reliability becomes even more important.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Rousu makes birch firewood for about four months a year. The finished logs amount to about one thousand cubic meters, or 10 truckloads. The logs are available in 33 and 50 centimeter lengths, delivered as loose thrown cubic meters in a trailer or in one-and-a-half cubic meter bags. By using different splitting blades, the log can be split into two or four, two or six, or two or eight parts as needed. The machine has a splitting force of 10,000 kilograms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He gets the birch logs from his own forest. He selects logs of a suitable size where productivity is as high as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rousu acquired a Hakki Pilke 38 Pro from Maasel\u00e4n Kone Oy two years ago directly from production. He has been doing test runs with it together with Maasel\u00e4n Kone. The machine is used in harsh conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previously, Rousu used an older machine from the same manufacturer, the Hakki Pilke 2X, which Rousu had modified himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2212 I ended up with the 38 Pro because the brand had already become familiar to me. I was recommended the predecessor of that machine in 2003. The brand was the market leader, not the cheapest. I didn't even consider other brands when getting a new machine. Service and the availability of spare parts must be guaranteed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Rousu, the 38 Pro is a long-lasting machine with a lot of electronics that make operating it easier. This places demands on maintenance, as you cannot do everything yourself. Rousu has had some maintenance needs: the chain tensioners have been replaced and new parts installed. Maintenance is easy to do in a warm workshop, where the machine is moved for servicing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- I am very satisfied with this machine, maintenance and spare parts work really well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Right now, Rousu does not need any additional features for the machine. He has always been in contact with the factory about his ideas. Based on his thoughts, for example, different saw chain options have been tested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Birch firewood is made in the winter<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Sixty-year-old Simo Rousu knows very well how high-quality birch firewood is made. The best time for the work is in winter when the ground is frozen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I work outdoors from December to April even in severe freezing temperatures, although I've tried to set my limit at -20 degrees. The machine works well in the frost, there haven't been any problems with it. Lots of clothes on, a snowstorm doesn't bother me. I don't work in the rain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before the firewood is ready to be burned, it needs to dry. That requires freezing temperatures, wind, warmth, and humidity. According to Rousu, the wood cells close up in purely dry and warm weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 12-meter conveyor is used to move split firewood under a shelter. The conveyor is gradually pulled outward as the space under the shelter fills up with firewood. The shelters have a ventilated floor. Rousu has designed and built a vacuum-operated ventilation system himself, which draws moist air out of the wood piles. The dryer runs for 12 hours a day in the spring and early summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The firewood is free of debris, as the cleaning drum at the front of the conveyor sifts out the trash as it rotates. The device is factory-made and is not part of the standard equipment of the firewood processor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Everyone who industrially produces firewood for sale must have one of these, it's a basic quality requirement, Rousu explains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
